Security Blanket

A security blanket is something that can make you feel good, comfy and happy. You sense a certain degree of ease when you are wearing one. You feel a special kind of assurance when you are having one. And you believe that you feel at home and at peace just knowing you got one. But not all security blanket is actually a blanket and I know that you all know that.

When I left home to be with the LOML [love of my life], I brought with me some of my favorite stuff like my favorite shoes and of course, my old lime green flip-flops which was given to me by my youngest brother as Christmas gift. I love wearing them and I feel good wearing them. They reminded me a lot of good times and happy memories I had with my brothers during the last days I spent in our hometown. I was wearing them all the time going… to the river where we frequented to take a swim… to the market where we buy my favorite delicacies… to the church when we attended religious services… to the plaza where we stroll around town… to almost everywhere.

When I came here to Maine, that flip-flops became my security blanket because I always feel home when I am wearing them. There was a time during winter last year that I felt so homesick and longing for home. I was about to cry but when I saw my flip-flops, it made me smile. I took them and wore them and I ran in the snow. It was crazy but I felt good despite the cold.

That's so sweet that those flip flops are so special to you. It's this sentimental value we attach to things that makes it so difficult to discard them when they wear out or when they serve no useful purpose anymore. We humans are so sentimental. That's really funny you wearing them in the snow! I don't think I'd ever do that!!! I hate being cold and my feet are VERY sensitive.

Hi Ruthi...

I guess we all have a 'security blanket' to help us cope with things. I have a couple of things that were once my late mother's. I still look for them whenever I have one of 'those' days.

Thanks for grabbing the logo and putting it here. It's very much appreciated.

I've been quite busy lately so hindi ako nakaka hop masyado. Sensya na po.

Hope your week is going great!

@ Karen... I know, attachment to material things is something hard to get rid of especially if they have sentimental values. And yes, I was crazy for wearing those flipflops in the snow but i felt good too.
