camera shy

I love cameras. My camera is a mainstay in my pocketbook. Whatever the occasion or day it is, you will not catch me off guard without a camera on hand. I love taking pictures and love myself in the pictures as well. But since I noticed that I gained weight recently and I don’t look flattering on photos… I rather take pictures of other people or places instead.

I usually take photos of our front yard every changing season. I take the photo of the same spot every changing season and I love the changes that I see. From all the photos that I took the same “mail box” is there and the same maple trees are present too. This is one of the few things that I like about Maine… always changing and constantly amazing.

Good Alibi for Shopping

It’s Fall again and it is my favorite season. The trees are again dressed in its colorful “hue’ and I started organizing my closet again. You know, bringing out those totes where I kept my fall/winter clothes. I started sorting out the clothes to find out which ones still fit me and which ones need to be donated because for some reason, they shrunk. Hahaha. Then find out also if I need to buy new ones and have an alibi to go shopping. Yehey!

the Making of a football step-mom

I’m still raging about the football game last night and even dreamt about it. The Patriots lost big time to San Diego Chargers and 3-30 was the final score when I saw it in the news this morning.

You see, I already changed the channel when Matt Cassel wasn’t able to touch down at 1 yard. It was crazy. In fairness to Matt – I know he is pressured because of Tom Brady’s good reputation. But the least he could do is use his common sense. C’mon, I don’t know anything about football but I know when the game sucks. It sucked big time. Hubby was already passed snoring at that point. He was not saying anything but I know he was pissed when he saw how the Patriots played in the first quarter. So I was alone fuming.

Oh well, there is one thing for sure… if Sarah Palin is a Hockey Mom… I will surely be a Football Step-Mom.hahahaha

Cemetery Field Trip

Today I went to see my friend again and continue with our photo sessions. Well, of course, that was after we first had our all-Pinoy-Feast “pig-out” part 2. Today, I cooked “sinigang na baboy” [pork and veggie in tangy tamarind broth] with sliced fresh tomato and “bagoong” [sautéed shrimp paste] sidings. It was terrific. After lunch we went for another walk and this time we went to the cemetery. Hahahaha. Yes, of all places… we decided to have our picture taking in the cemetery.

Unlike from where we came from, cemetery here in Maine is not scary. I found it peaceful, serene and breathtaking, figuratively speaking [not literally.] So here are the photos of the cemetery.

Housewives on the Bridge

Yesterday, I went for a brief visit to my Filipina friend in Porter, Maine. As usual, we had our all-Pinoy-food "pig-out" and endless chikkahan [small talk] on the side. After our sumptuous lunch we went for a walk to the bridge which is our favorite spot in the area because of its magnificent view. Good thing I had my camera with me and was able to take shots of that view.

So here, I share with you that view in the bridge with the amazing foliage. This view never fails to amaze me everytime we pass by the bridge. And since it is fall season... the more it takes my breath away.

My friend’s daughter Elise has been working in a Home Care for couple of years now. Though she has no formal training in health care she was able to get necessary short courses provided by the Home and that qualifies her for the job. She likes her work and she is proud of it. This year, my friend said that Elise decided to pursue her college education for a more stable future. And we are all happy for that decision, of course. She wanted to take up Nursing because she knows that it is a very in-demand profession we have today.

Well, as a [fairy] Godmother, I was asked to help her look for the right school so I waved my magic wand online and searched for a nursing school that is close to her home so that she can save on board and lodging. My Goddaughter Elise finally chose and applied at Andover College because it’s near her home and work too. My friend was a bit emotional when Elise was finally got accepted but I understand. I know I would feel the same way too if she were my own child.

What’s Cooking Now?

If you have noticed I was bitching about my cooking skill lately. It’s not that Hubby is complaining about it. He never complains. That is one good thing about him… he would just eat anything I offer him and he is happy as long as I feed him. Well, as my friend Soy said and I quote…“husbands who depend on their wives for food shouldn't complain. It could be crunchy or slimy, sweet or bland, but if it's made with love, who cares?” and I agree with her.

As I have said my hubby never complains, it is actually me who complains about my own cooking. I felt that everything I cook is the same – boring and without character. I need something that will not only make me a plain housewife but something like Brie of Desperate Housewives and make a real career out of it. Who knows? I might make it big in the cooking business. Oh well, it will be meal time again. Normally, I would google recipes online for meal inspiration but today, I googled about Culinary Schools online.
