My Garden BFFs

It officially “fall” and it means the sceneries are changing again. It means that the ground is starting to freeze and my vegetables will be dying soon. It means that my gardening days are over. The Photo-walk at the Lighthouse

Photography is one of my kind of relaxations. A good addictive relaxation. But when "work" gets in the way, it's the first thing that take a backseat too.

Three weeks ago, I got a rare chance to go for a photo-walk. I heard from the radio that September 15th is the Open Lighthouse Day in Maine so I made a plan right a way. I spent the entire day at Fort Williams Park and just enjoyed the day.

And here are what I came up with.

And though I ended up with a twisted foot for not paying attention on where I was stepping on, I was still happy walking around limping and with a smile on my face. It was such a wonderful day at the park... in my Maine.

Falling for Fall

 FALL - my favorite season of all!

Yes, it's officially "fall"! It is the time of the year where Maine will be dressed in shades of red, orange, yellow and brown.

... where the wind is crisp and chilly,

... and where the apple orchards smells yummy.

This is my favorite time of the year because the sceneries are amazingly changing and inspiring.

It is fall and I think I am falling in love with it all over again.

The perils of the changing season

It's the first day of Fall. A new season... a new change... a whole new old thing to start over again... like reorganizing my wardrobe, drawers, and turn the house upside down.

Oh yeah, it's the time of the year where I need to pack my summer clothes in my summer totes and bring out the fall totes to put the fall clothes into the newly emptied wardrobe. It's a whole new old activities that I need to deal with for a couple of weeks or so to keep my sanity in check.

This is the time of the year where I need to reorganize my old stuff and put into used the not too old ones to save more money and stay sane.

It's time again for fall cleaning to give way to the forthcoming winter mess!

And yes, there is no other way to keep yourself from going nuts but to keep yourself busy with more household chores. ARGGGGG!

Well, there is nothing I can do. If there is an app to change the craziness that the changing season brings - bring it on. As for now, the only things that this change of season brings to my worn-out senses are...

the crisp smell of the orchards...

 

and hot apple ciders. weeeee!

Fall is here so let's stay warm and cozy. Hope that this will be a better one than the last year. wink*

The Lighthouse

Yesterday I spent the whole day at the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth where my Sweetest and I got married 5 years ago. It was Maine's Open Lighthouse Day. This event is organized by the US Coast Guard, the American Lighthouse Foundation and the State of Maine which main objective is to increase awareness of Maine's maritime heritage.

Open Lighthouse Day is a once a year event [this is their 4th year] where all lighthouses in all of Maine is open to the public. During this time Historic buildings like... the Light Tower and the Light Keeper’s House which is now the Park's Museum is open to the public for free.

Approximately 300 tickets were made available to visitors on a first-come-first-served basis to be able to climb the tower which has 85+ steps and where you can get a 360 degrees view of the place.Too bad I didn't get the chance to get a free ticket handed out by the US Coast Guard that day. It would be fun to see Cape Elizabeth and Casco Bay up the tower.

The Portland Head Light sits on Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. It was named after Brevet Major General Seth Williams. It was once a tremendous military asset during World War II. It served to protect Cape Elizabeth's shoreline and provided Harbor Defense for Portland.The park was kinda crowded already when I got there but I was surprised to immediately find a parking spot because the last thing I want to do is drive around looking for parking.

This is a historical place because this is where I said "I DO" to my Sweetest. LOL Kidding aside, this is historical in every way since it was built more than 200 years ago and considered as the 2nd oldest lighthouse in the United States.

The Portland Head Light is commissioned by George Washington and was built in 1791. It is the oldest Lighthouse in the State of Maine.

 

Aside from visiting the Lighthouse and Light Keeper's House, there are lots of fun things to do at Fort Williams Park. It is a nice place to hike, run, bike, play soccer, tennis, baseball, frolic in the beach or swim in the inviting waters of Casco Bay or simply laze and enjoy the beautiful gardens and views. It is also the best place to celebrate birthdays or have weddings. And that means that - I will have a part two of this post. wink*** So wait for it.

My day at Cape Elizabeth ended with a nice run around the park. It was such a wonderful place to spend the time alone [for me] or with your family. I will surely be back and will bring some chicken to barbecue. Wink*

Maine Attraction

This is my 5th year here in Maine.

I came here in 2007 with only hopes and aspirations in my pocket. I left behind my family, friends, work and brought nothing but a couple of 70 kilosluggage and - my faith. It didn't take long for me to adjust to the weather, culture and lifestyle. Before long, I learned how to live, breathe and think like a Mainer.

Last year, I finally got my citizenship so I'm officially a Mainer. Though deep in my heart I am still a Filipina and will always be. While the Philippines is my true home - Maine is very much a part of me now. She is my adoptive home and my home away from "home."

Since Maine is my home now, I want to explore it and share all the exciting things I discovered and will discover about it. I want to learn about it and as I do... I'll try to post anything and everything about Maine. I want to share my experiences for the world to know that I live in a little piece of paradise up here in Down East [as we call it].

This part of my blog will be called MAINE ATTRACTION and it will be a regular weekly post. [Cross your fingers. LOL] Well, I'll try to post on regular basis but no promises.wink* This is be published every 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.

Accompanying photos will be labeled and useful links will be added to supply readers additional information about my Maine.

Thank You for the 5 years

Hubby and I celebrated our 5th Wedding Anniversary last July 7th. I know, it's already August and this is kinda late. I have good alibis for that.

1. I was away and on vacation in the Philippines.
2. Internet access was slow back home.
3. I was too busy catching up with family and friends whom I have not seen for 5 long years.

Yes, we celebrated our 5th Anniversary apart. I left Maine on the 26th of June and didn't come home till the 6th of August.

Yes, I left my Sweetest here in Maine. It was the very first time we have been apart that long [7 weeks] since we got married.

And yes, I missed him so much. I never thought I would feel homesick when in fact was - home.

Belated Happy Anniversary my Sweetest. Thank you for the wonderful 5 years of being there for me. Thank you for the patience... the thoughtfulness... the sweetness.

Thank you for trying your best to do the things you hated because you know that they make me happy. Although there are times I feel that you are doing them just to shut me up. wink*

Thank you for keeping your cool when I am in my usual nagging mode because you know that there is no way you can win. Although there are times that you wished I was the same old woman you married who would just kept quiet in the middle of an argument and cry. Oh how you wish I have not learned how to open my mouth because when I did, I never shut up. LOL

Thank you for saying "sorry" even if most of the time, it was my fault. Although I know that it was very unlikely of you to say the "S" word before, but you were able to learn how to say it because you know it calms me down. You made me feel really special and loved. wink*

Thank you Sweetest for the 5 years. Let's work for the next 100 years, okay?
