The Cool Doctor

Brandon’s initial evaluation took only a couple of hours. But prior to his one-on-one interview, Dr. Ellen talked to us [Hubby, Me and Dorie, Brandon’s Case Manager] first. The conversation was just basic inquiry about Brandon and his behavior at home and in school. And during that time, he was outside the room and sitting on the floor sulking and insisting on going home. But Dr. Ellen has her way of making Brandon changed his mind. Eventually, Brandon calmed down and finally decided to give Dr. Ellen a chance.

They went in another room where Brandon was given some puzzles to work on. It was a closed door session and only Dorie was allowed to observe. Hubby and I stayed in the next room but we can hear how the session went on. I could hear Dr. Ellen asking Brandon to repeat the numbers that she was saying. And I could hear the Brandon was saying the right numbers that Dr. Ellen said. Though there would be part where I could tell that he’d gotten too excited and deviated from the activity from time to time. I also sensed that he was also kinda feeling at home with Dr. Ellen already because we could hear him giggling and hollering something with a tone of excitement.

The two hours session ended and it was time for his Dad to talk to Dr. Ellen. It was a closed door session too but it only took about 30 minutes. It was basically some information about the evaluation that Brandon will go through. While Hubby was having the meeting, Brandon was busy playing with trains. He was still excited. I told him that he has to come again to see Dr. Ellen next Monday… and his eyes lighted up. He said… “Oh yeah… I want to come again… because Dr. Ellen is cool.
