The Bad Doctor
We went to the doctor/psychologist last Monday for Brandon’s evaluation. I knew it would not be easy to drag him there because it is a new place. The little guy is not always happy with change. He easily freaks out when he is in an entirely new environment. The little guy needs a little assurance that everything will be alright. Yet still he won’t accept it easily. He just won’t believe it. He is as impatient as he would always be. He doesn’t trust strangers. Though, that is one good thing that makes us confident that he wouldn’t go anywhere with anybody he doesn’t know, still it is sometimes a drawback too. It gives us a hard time to bring him somewhere he has to go to and we can’t do it without any struggle on his end.
Dr. Ellen came out to meet us for the first time. Brandon was already crying and wanted us to go home. One thing that really freaked him out was the fact that we call Ellen… Doctor. He already has a misconception about doctors. He thought that she will give him a shot and he hates it. You know kids… they associate things with certain bad experiences and the word “doctor” has always a bad implication about it. It took us a couple of minutes to settle down. But Brandon was still hesitant to cooperate. He loosened up after few minutes more when he finally realized that Dr. Ellen is not the “bad doctor” after all. He finally realized that Dr. Ellen is not the kind of doctor who gives kids shots. He finally realized that Dr. Ellen has cool toys and puzzles that he can play with.

Brandon's appointment with Dr. Ellen is the first of the 2 sessions that he needs to complete for his evaluation to know if he has other thing aside from Autism Spectrum Disorder.
